1. VALENTINES - CAN GOOD SEX REALLY MAKE A BETTER WORLD?
I have to confess that I'm conflicted about Valentines Day - To be specific I'm uncomfortable about the
commercialization and performance expectations created by the various industries. While a Hallmark card might
be just to thing for me to send to my eighty some year old great Aunt Margaret, it's not right for those who
feed my heart and soul.
A dear friend of mine feels the same way, so her and her boyfriend decided to create Random Acts of Valentines.
They decide between the two of them to declare some specific day in the future as their personal Valentines, and
to do so frequently. This is fantastic! So I've decided that I need to change my curmudgeonly attitude about Valentines
and make it more personal... Now that I'm teaching a class on Love Letter Writing, I need to write a stack of them as
well. First to my beloved spouse... and then love letters to my friends. No, these are not "those" kind of friends, but
to thank those who love and support me as who I am... Let's all thank the ones who love us for who we are!
Speaking of Valentines and things sexual, the San Francisco Chronicle did a nice feature on my classes in their Sunday
Style section. It was a charming little pre-Valentines cute piece. They also posted it on their web site with a podcast
of an interview. It's always interesting to see the public's reaction to article on sexuality education classes in the
mainstream media. There are the supporters, the curious, the embarrassed and the mortally offended - even in the Bay Area.
So can good sex make the world a better place? Yes, I believe this. Good sex isn't just about getting off. It's not about
acting on compulsions. It's not about guilt. Good sex is about loving one's self, respecting one self, knowing oneself, about
loving others, respecting others, and reaching out to know others. It's about being mindful and authentic, and recognizing that
sexuality is part of the healthy whole person. And I'd think mindfulness, authenticity, kindness, health and happiness are all
pretty fine stuff to make the world a better place. Don't you?
Happy Valentines,
Wishing you peace, pleasure and joy!

5. BIRTHDAY BASH AT BEACH BLANKET BABYLON
I'm turning 42 this May. I figured I'd throw a very special birthday party and make it a fun gathering and a super
cool fundraiser for my AIDS Life Cycle journey this year. If you've not heard of Beach Blanket Babylon you know it's
a fun, cheeky theater show that's been going on in San Francisco for ages. It's fun for everyone. I'd even happily
take my mom this! (I wonder if I can get her over from Japan?)
I'm encouraging fun outfits… Fancy dinner wear, cycle gear, drag, wacky costumes, fet wear… (You must be street legal,
of course.
Tickets: PLanetMidori.com/bbb $58 front cabaret, $50 rear cabaret
When: Friday, May 2nd. 9:30pm
